A Transgender/genderqueer Shabbat! June 1 & 2.

A Trans Shabbat

How about that?

It takes place at the progressive and inclusive Congregation Sha’ar Zahav in San Francisco.

Sha’ar Zahav is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! This shul has grown as the LGBT movement has grown. In the beginning, Sha’ar Zahav was a gay shul. Then lesbians were welcomed. Next bisexuals came out and joined, and then trans and genderqueer people.

If anyone else would like to join, please contact Sha’ar Zahav!

Yours truly is a member of Congregation Sha’ar Zahav. I am also co-chair of the Trans, Intersex, Genderqueer and Allies (TIGQA) programming committee that produced the Trans Shabbat.

It was a killer success! The community support and interest of trans and non-trans folks was a joy to behold.

I encourage other organizations to try similar community events.
